Intro

VIC 48 Hours Production Challenge or ‘Cabaran Produksi 48 Jam VIC’ a competition where each production team are required to produce a video using a given genre, character, prop and line of dialogue in 2 days (48 hours). Those elements are compulsory to be included and used in the production of the video. After the 48 hours period, each team needs to send in their video product to the organizer for it to be judged by our professional judging team.

This program is adapted and inspired by the international 48 Hours Film Project (48HFP) which has taken place in many countries in the world, including Malaysia – KL48HFP. This program was designed to offer a new challenge for the amateur production team to show off their skills in the art of video/film making in a short time frame.

Theme

In this year, we have set the theme for the video as ‘Menghadapi Persepsi Isu Sosial’ or simply ‘Social Issues Perception’.

In VIC, we believe that every big change starts with a small step. Nowadays we have heard of many social issues that happened within our society, and people often have the wrong interpretation hence misunderstood the situation, put unnecessary judgment and not being helpful. These people need some exposure on the truth – on what they really need to understand and comprehend about the issue.

VIC also believe that education is the key to a better society. We can be part of the change, and it starts with small efforts. With VIC 48 Hours Production Challenge, we offer an opportunity for you to make your own story and be the help that people need. The ‘Elements’

The concept of this competition is like one of Gordon Ramsay’s cooking program. You are given the raw materials, and within the time limit, cook/prepare something delicious for us to ~~eat~~ watch.

Genre

Genre is how you are going to tell the audience about your stories. It can be in a funny way, or it can be in a creepy way. The choice is all yours on how to make your story more enjoyable. Worry not, unlike the other elements, the genre is up to you to choose and here is a little help for you to explore more about Genre.

Character

Character is basically the person who is going to lead your story. In film making term we call this person as the main lead. It can be a person, or it can be a tool or something you can’t even imagine. Who knows?

Prop

A main lead cannot be acting all alone. It needs an assistant, it needs some supporting role like a tool, like a prop; that can help to make the story even better.

Line of Dialogue

If you are not producing something like Mr Bean or Charlie Chaplin series, you are most like likely going to use this. We will also provide a line of dialogue for you to use, up to your creativity.

How it Works?

The program and the event is going to take place in the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on 11th, 12th, and 13th May 2018.

On the first day, each production team need to send their representative for registration and to know which elements (from the list of genres, characters, lines of dialogue, and props) that you are assigned to. When every team has finished drawing their list of ‘elements’, that’s when the challenge starts!

Participants are given freedom to choose where, when, and how they are going to shoot their videos. Just bear in mind that you are on your own, including your safety. The challenge will stop on Sunday exactly at the time we started the 48 hours Production Challenge. we take punctuality issue very seriously here. Those who cannot make it on time will be counted as disqualified.

When participants have all submitted their video product, judging session will immediately start. Our judging method will use make use of our brilliant participants’ pitching skills. Each team will be given 5 minutes to pitch about their video product. After that, you’re done! Just wait for your prizes during the closing ceremony.

We encourage every team member to come during the opening ceremony for us to properly greet our brilliant video editors and directors, not forgetting if you guys also have excellent actors and actresses. We will also give some detailed briefing about the program that is not included in this webpage.

What Do I Need to Prepare?

Basically nothing, but a good production team of your own. You do not need to prepare a script or a story beforehand because everything will be given to you and it is gonna be spontaneous! What you actually need is some creativity to really link all the given elements together and make a story out of it – it’s that simple, really. You can think of the challenge as a quick getaway from the reality and have some chilling session while shooting a short video and grab the prizes that we offer, because why not right?
